Tricia had 4 1/8 yards of fabric to make curtains. When she finished she had 2 3/8 yards of fabric left. She said she used 2 2/8 yards of fabric for the curtains. Do you agree?

No because if you add up the fabric she 'used' and the fabric she made to make the curtains it doesn't match up with the original yards of fabric she had to make the curtains.

2 3/8+ 2 2/8= 4 5/8

4 5/8 is the supposedly original fabric she had. It's only 1/2 off from the original fabric of yards.

So no I don't agree.

Well for this you have to do 4 1/8 - 2 3/8. You cannot subtract 1 - 3, so you have to take away 1 from three and add 8 to 1 so now the equation is 3 9/8 - 2 3/8. This is equal to 1 6/8 or 1 3/4, so no, she did not use 2 2/8 yards of fabric.
