Magellan helped spread the Roman Catholic Religion to the Philippines. The conversion of the native people were done in behalf of Spain's sovereignty.

Many chiefs of the native population agreed to be converted to Christianity. However, one chieftain, Lapu-Lapu, opposed the conversion which led to a battle where Magellan died due to would inflicted by poisoned arrows.
