Let's write the expression

six more (+6) than eight times a number (8x) equals 30 (=30)

8x + 6 = 30
8x = 30 - 6
x = 24/8
x = 3

6 + 8x = 30
Problem written out
8x = 24
Subtracted 6 to get 8x alone
x = 3
Divided 8 to get your answer!
