to find markup price, multiply the original number (455) by 1 + the decimal equivilent of the percent increase (.34)
so
455*1.34= $609.70

Answer: $609.70

Explanation:

Given : A clerk is marking up merchandise 34%.

The original price of an item is $455.

Then, the Mark up price = 34% of Original price

⇒ Mark up price
= 0.34 * \$455 [Replace 'of' by '× 'and convert percentage into decimal by dividing it by 100 ]

⇒ Mark up price= $154.70

Now , Retail price = Original price + mark up price

= $455+$154.70 =$609.70

Therefore , the retail price will be $609.70 .
