Samantha correctly answered 38 out of 55 questions on a test. She must score 70% or greater to pass the test.

Let's start by working out what percentage 38 / 55 is. To work this out, literally just do 38 ÷ 55, and then × 100. So Samantha got 69% (to the nearest percent). To pass the test, you needed 70%. Therefore, Samantha failed as 38 ÷ 55 × 100 shows us that 38 marks is equivalent to 69%, which is not enough to pass.
