Arachne was a weaver who challenged Athena in Greek Mythology, and was, consequently, transformed into a spider; although, there are approximately three versions of the myth in total.

Arachne was a weaver who acquired such skill in her art that she ventured to challenge Athena, goddess of war, handicraft, and practical reason. Arachne also means spider. She was a mortal woman and she was turned into a spider.
