Before Europeans arrived in the late-1700s, there were over 250 Aboriginal languages in Australia. Today, there are less than 200 Aboriginal languages spoken throughout the continent of Australia. What conclusion can you draw from this information?

After the arrival of the Europeans, the number of Aboriginal languages decreased by 20% - which is a lot.

The conclusion is that the Aboriginal population was either assimilated into the Mainstream of the society or else suffered cultural or actual physical death of people.
