You are designing a room for a house and are drawing a floor plan. The room is actually 18 feet wide. On your floor plan, you draw the room as 6 inches wide. What is the scale factor (scale) for the floor plan?

The scale factor is calculated through the division of 18 on 6. Which simplifies down to 3:1

If 6 inches represent 18 feet, 1 inch will represent 3 feet.

So the scale is

1 inch on plan = 3 feet wide in actual life
