Number sold = 65% of 60
= 0.65 * 60 = 39
39 loaves were sold in the afternoon.

To find the answer, simply multiply 60 loaves of bread by 65%:
60 * 0.65
=
39
Therefore, 39 loaves were sold in the afternoon
