Improper fractions are fractions that have a numerator that is greater than its denominator.

Mixed fraction is a combination of a whole number and a proper fraction.

Proper fraction is a fraction whose numerator is smaller than its denominator.

15/4 is an improper fraction. It numerator, 15, is bigger than its denominator, 4.

3 3/4 is a mixed fraction. It is a combination of a whole number, 3, and a proper fraction 3/4.

as you can see, 15/4 and 3 3/4 is equal in value. 3 3/4 is the simplest form of 15/4. There difference is just the presentation. Since every fraction must be in its simplest form, every improper fraction will result to a mixed fraction.
