Hi there!

Underneath the Earth's crust lies the mantle which is a thick layer of molten rock. This rock moves in convection currents (up and down with the hot rising and the cold sinking in a long cycle) which in turn moves the lithosphere and allows the tectonic plates to glide across generating volcanoes, mountains, trenches, etc.
