Dinoflagellates literally means dual flagella
Dinoflagellates are unicellular eukaryotic protozoa of the phylum Dinoflagellata. These organisms are called dinoflagellates because they have two dissimilar flagella (whip-like tails) that extend from the ventral cell side. The flagella are mainly used for movement. Dinoflagellates can be found in marine and fresh water habitats.
