In this case, we have function, and we want to make it look like y = mx+b. So, we are going to do a bit of rearranging. I’ll go step-by-step, let me know if its at all tricky:

7y + 42 = -14x

First, I’d like to get y all by itself on the left side of the equals sign. So, I will subtract 42 from each side:

7y = -14x – 42.

I have 7y on the left side instead of just y by itself. So, I will divide both sides by 7. Remember to do this to BOTH terms on the right side:

7y/7 = -14x/7 – 42/7

y = -2x – 6
