The three-man panel that investigated the Iran-Contra affair was named the Tower Commission.

The Iran-Contra affair was a political scandal in which the United States was involved during Ronald Reagan's second term as president of the United States. Therefore, the Iran-Contra affair took place from 1985 to 1987 after senior administration officials arranged a secret deal to sell arms to Iran in order to fund the Contras, a rebel group in Nicaragua, without the approval of the United States Congress. The Tower Commission was formed in 1986 and its task was to evaluate the future role of the National Security Council in foreign and national security policy. The Tower Commission was integrated by former Senator John Tower, former National Security Advisor Brent Scowcroft and Secretary of State Edmund Muskie.
