This is true, at least in the sense that I know studies that have shown benefician and not beneficial effect of meditation.

Some scientists argue that the difference is caused by whether the people do meditation as a choice or whether it's imposed on them (by peer-pressure, employer, etc) - if people choose meditation themselves the results are more positive
