Alexandra paid $7 to park her car for 3 hours at the parking garage. The garage charges an hourly parking rate.

Write an equation that shows the relationship between the number of hours parked (p) and the cost in dollars (c)?

$7 was paid to park the car for 3 hours.

3 hours cost $7 to park

1 hour = $ (7/3)

So every 1 hour cost $(7/3)

Therefore cost in dollars, c = (7/3)*p

Therefore c = (7/3)p, where c is the cost in dollars of parking and p is the number of hours.

Answer: The garbage charges
\$\ (7)/(3) per hour

The equation shows the relation is
c=(7)/(3)p

Explanation:

Given: Alexandra paid $7 to park her car for 3 hours at the parking garage.

⇒ Cost for 3 hours parking=$7

To find cost of parking for 1 hour, divide cost for 3 hours by $7

⇒Cost for 1 hour =
\$\ (7)/(3)\text{per hour}

Therefore, the garbage charges
\$\ (7)/(3) per hour

For c is the cost in dollars of parking and p is the number of hours, the equation shows the relation is as follows:-

c=(7)/(3)*\ p

c=(7)/(3)p
