I've had to answer MANY Unit Tests about Anne Frank's diary, so you could trust me on this one. ;-)
The conflict is that Mr. Van Daan thinks that Anne is too childish and irresponsible, and that because of HER foolishness, they will be discovered by the police. He also thinks that she is influencing his son WAY too much.
