Given:The odds are from 3 to 5 ,that is, 3,5.

We have to find the probability of the event that Deborah will win first prize.

The probability of the odds that are against Deborah winning first prize will be:

=\frac{\text{Number of favorable outcomes}}{nu\text{mber of possible outcomes}}

Here, number of possible outcomes to get odd from 3 to 5 are 3,4,5 that is 3.

Number of favourable outcomes to get odd are 3,5 that is 2

So, probability of odds will be:

=(2)/(3)

Now, the probability that she will win first prize will be:

= 1- P(the odds are winning)

=1-(2)/(3)
=(1)/(3)

So, the probability that Deborah will win first prize is 1/3.
