Two drivers are traveling from New York City along the same interstate highway. Tomas traveled 854 miles yesterday and is traveling 65 miles per hour (h) for the remainder of his trip. Klaus traveled 682 miles yesterday and is traveling 73 miles per hour (h) for the remainder of his trip. How many hours (h) does each man have to drive so that Klaus travels as far as Tomas?THERE IS TWO STEPS TO THE PROBLEM

Tomas traveled 854 miles and his speed is 65 miles/hour

Klaus traveled 682 miles and is traveling 73 miles/hour

1) Compare the distances both drivers traveled:

Tomas 854 vs Klaus 682, the distance traveled by Klaus is shorter than the distance traveled by Tomas so:

Distance traveled by Tomas > distance traveled by Klaus

2) To calculate the time (hours) that each driver took to cover said distances you have to multiply the distance by the speed:

\text{time}=\text{distance}\cdot\text{speed}

So for Tomas the time is equal to 854miles * 65 miles/hour

And for Klaus it is 682miles * 73miles/hour

The otion is the last one

854*65<682*73
