Liz wants to buy her favorite musical group's new CD. The CD costs $15.24, including tax. Liz gives the store clerk a twenty-dollar bill. How much change should Liz get back?

It would depend on the state since every state has a different tax rate, but without tax it would be $4.76.

Liz buys a CD that costs $ 15.24 including taxes. We aren't told how much the taxes cost but we do know that the total amount she has to pay for the CD is $15.24

She gives the clerk a 20 dollar bill

so the balance she should receive is $20 - $ 15.24

so lets do the subtraction

20.00

15.24 -

--------

4.76

therefore Liz should receive change of $ 4.76
