This concludes that Lady Blankeney needed to be convinced that Armand is working against the French gov. She needed evidence, and Chauvelin found a note, and decided to show her it. I think his efforts would not work as Lady Blanekeny was strict.

He will probably use this at his advantage because , he knows that she is a french daughter plus Armand devotes his life to french.
