Answer: D) Appeal to emotion.

Step-by-step explanation: there are many persuasive or rhetorical techniques used to convince the readers or the audience of a perspective or argument about a controversial topic. Three of the most used are ethos, logos and pathos, ethos is an appeal to the audience's ethics, logos is an appeal to the audience's logic and pathos is an appeal to the audience's emotions. In the given sentence the author is clearly appealing to the audience's emotions, by using the image of children.

This is appeal to emotion.

Appeal to logic would be if he explained with scientific facts, appeal to authority would be if he presented why he is qualified to speak, and appeal to ethics is not a part of the three appeals.
