Well, the equation for speed is
Speed=Distance/Time (S=D/T)
So, if you travel 100 yards +10 yards +10 yards=120 yards
S=120 yards/ 40 seconds
Speed=3 yards per second
You are running 3 yards per second

3 yards per second. First, you add to get your total distance (120 yards) then you divide by time (40 seconds) to get 3 yards per second.
