Is the most likely reason that Grendel returns Unferth to the mead-hall, yet kills two soldiers before leaving?

A. He does not want the king to think that he is being merciful.
B. He wants to obey the wishes of his mother.
C. He does not want his magic spell to break because of his kindness.
D. He wants the king to think Unferth killed the men.

I believe that Grendel did all that because he does not want the king to think that he is being merciful. He says it himself - "...killed the two guards so I wouldn't be misunderstood and left".
