you are on the roller blades on top of a small hill. Your potential energy is equal to 1,000.0 joules. The last time you checked your mass was 60.0 kilograms. What is your weight in newtons?

Weight = (mass) x (gravity)

= (60 kg) x (9.8 m/s²)

= 588 newtons

(about 132.3 pounds) .

It makes no difference whether you're on top of the hill,
down in the valley, in school or at church. As long as you're
anywhere on Earth, the acceleration of gravity doesn't change
until a few decimal places later, and neither does your weight,
so knowing your potential energy doesn't tell us anything.
