5x=35 after you combine like terms. divide both sides by 5 and you get x=7

$3x+9=44-2x\ \ | \ add\ 2x\ to\ both\ sides \\\\5x+9=44\ \ |\ subtract\ 9\ to\ both\ sides \\\\5x=35 \ \ | \ divide \ both \ sides\ by\ 5 \\\\x=7$
