Why do sodium and potassium have similar chemical porperties

Sodium and Potassium have similar chemical properties because they are in the same family/group in the periodic table. They both belong to the Alkali metal group so therefore they should have the same properties that why are they are called 'family' (b/c they have similar properties). Hope this helped :)
