A) Each day, Carl spends 1/3 of an hour walking the dog in the morning and 1/2 an hour in the afternoon. To work out how long he walks them for a day, we need to add together the two fractions.
The lowest common multiple of 3 and 2 is 6, therefore we turn the denominators into 6
From 3 to 6, we multiply by 2, therefore we do the same to the numerator
1/3 = 2/6
From 2 to 6, we multiply by 3, therefore we do the same to the numerator
1/2 = 3/6
Now we can add the numerators
2/6 + 3/6 = 5/6
5/6 x 60mins = 50 minutes per day

B) If Carl walks the dog every day, we multiply 5/6 by 7 to find the number of hours
5/6 x 7 = 35/6 = 5 5/6 hours or 5 hours 50 minutes

C) To convert into minutes we multiply 5 5/6 by 60
5 5/6 x 60 = 350 minutes

Answer:

A) 50 minutes

B)
5(5)/(6)\text{ of an hour}

C) 350 minutes

Explanation:

We are given the following information in the question:

Carl earns $ 3.25 per hour walking his neighbor's dog.

Total walking of dog in morning and evening =

\text{Morning:}\\\displaystyle(1)/(3) \text{ of an hour}\\\\= (1)/(3)* 60\text{ minutes }= 20 \text{minutes}\\\\\text{Evening:}\\\displaystyle(1)/(2) \text{ of an hour}\\\\= (1)/(2)* 60\text{ minutes }= 30 \text{minutes}

A) Time Carl spend dog walking every day =

Time spent in morning + Time spent in evening =

20 + 30 = 50\text{ minutes}

Carl spend 50 minutes dog walking every day.

B) Time Carl spend dog walking in a week

\text{Time spend every day}* \text{Number of days in aweek}\\=(\displaystyle(1)/(3)+(1)/(2))}\text{ of an hour}* 7\\\\= \displaystyle(5)/(6)}\text{ of an hour}* 7\\\\= (35)/(6)\text{ of an hour} = 5(5)/(6)\text{ of an hour}

C) Time Carl spend dog walking in a week in minutes

=\text{Time spend every day}* \text{Number of days in aweek}\\= 50\text{ minutes}* 7\\= 350\text{ mnutes}
