If the probability of a win is 0.2 and the probability of a draw is 0.64, what is the probability of a loss?

0.16 or 16%

Explanation:

an easier way to work this out is to convert these decimals into percentage. to do this, multiply the number by 100:

0.2 x 100 = 20%

0.64 x 100 = 64%

a percentage is out of 100 (probability of a win = 20/100 = 1/5) so to work this out, you just have to subtract the percentages that are known from 100:

100% - 20% = 80%

80% - 64% = 16%

∴ the probability of a loss = 16% or 0.16 as a decimal.

Another way to work this out is to add together the amounts that are given then work out what number needs to be added to = 1

0.2 + 0.64 = 0.84

0.84 + ? = 1

0.84 + 0.16 = 1

∴ the probability of a loss = 0.16

To find the probability of a loss add .2 and .64 together. You will get .84. The remaining .16 is the probability of a loss. The probability of a loss is .16.
