so add
1/5+3/8
convert bottom number to same number
5 times 8=40
bottom mub be 40
1/5 times 8/8=8/40
3/8 times 5/5=15/40
add

1/5+3/8=8/40+15/40=(8+15)/40=23/40
so completed 23/40 total
