Utopia is originally a Greek term for an imaginary place or society in which everything is absolutely perfect and joyous. Utopian communities were first created in America in the 1840s to serve as a model for the country at large. In Utopian communities individualism, freedom, equality and pursuit of passions was encouraged.

Utopia means an imaginary place enjoying perfection thus Utopian communities were created way back in 1840 to perfect American society. However their desire to have a perfect world often contradicts in the world their living having Industrial Revolution, Capitalism, etc.
