and are told to solve for the variable
. To isolate the asked variable, all we have to do is subtract
from both sides. This gives us

You have to isolate the y, so just subtract 5 from both sides to get:
y + 5 - 5 = 2x + 6 -5
y= 2x + 1
Hope it makes sense.
