What is the primary role of the endocrine system

The endocrine system is basically a whole network of glands that produce hormones (the body's chemical messengers), which serve to control the activities of your organs and cells (for instance, metabolism, bodily growth).

Examples of glands in the endocrine system are:
- the pituitary gland (located in the brain, aka "master gland" since it control many other glands)

- adrenal glands (located above kidneys)

* the hypothalamus structure in the brain is also a VERY important part of the endocrine system since it serves to connect the nervous system to the endocrine system (located under the thalamus in the brain)
