On the 14th of July 1789, an angry group of French rebels attacked a state prison on the east side of Paris, named Bastille. The rebels attacked the prison that night to get ammunition and arms. Bastille was used to imprison individuals that didn't agree politically with the monarchy and was a symbol of the monarchy's dictatorial rule. The storming of Bastille was a defining moment, marking the beginning of the French Revolution and the fall of the oppressive monarchy.
