In this equation, it is asking you to plug in the x and y values into the equation when x = 1 and y = -2 .
So you plug in those numbers to get:
4(1)^3 - 2(-2)^2

So next you multiply the exponents by the x and y values and then multiply that by the integers in the equation to get:
4 (1x1x1) = 4(1) = 4
-2 (-2 x -2) = -2(4) = -8

So now you get: 4 - 8 = -4

And that’s your answer.. -4

I hope that helped! :)

Replace the values of x and y in the expression
4(1)^3 - 2(-2)^2
4 - 2(4)
4 - 8
-4

Hope it helped!
