Why is mendel's law of independent assortment not always valid for two or more phenotypical traits of an individual?

The main reason for this is because some of the genes present on autosomal chromosomes are linked, meaning that a sequence of both genes each able to produce a certain phenotype, cannot assort independently, and as a result both phenotypic traits occur together.
