Yes, that is the correct usage. The direct translation of "cual" would be "which."

the statement is correct, in Spanish ¿Cuál? used with interrogation marks is applied to question in which a decision should be made. For example:

¿ Cuál es el mejor restaurante en Bogota?
¿ Cuál es la peor película que viste en el 2017?

When we are asked these kind of questions with need to provide an option in the answer. Let´s take the first example; the question would be "Which is the best restaurant in Bogota?" so you need to provide the name of the best restaurant for you.
