Choose 2 points in the table. I chose (1, -1.5) and (5, -0.6). Set it up using the equation (m represents average rate of change):

m = (y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

It will look like this:

m = (-0.6 - (-1.5))/(5-1)

Simplify:

m = (0.9)/(4)= 0.225
