I'm going to give you the greatest possible help !
I'm going to TELL you HOW to do these. Then, for the rest of your life,
YOU'll be able to toss off this kind of problem on your own, with your
eyes closed and your hands tied behind your back.

Every point on a graph has a definite location.
The location can be completely described with two numbers:

==> the number on the x-axis that's directly under or over the point.

==> the number on the y-axis that's directly left or right of the point.

If somebody just gives you those two numbers, you can find the point immediately.

The SHORT way to WRITE the location of the point is like this:

(the x-number, the y-number) .

For example, the point (5, 6) is located

... 5 units to the right, straight over the '5' on the x-axis,
and
... 6 units high, straight to the right of the '6' on the y-axis.

NOW . . . . . Here are the tools you need to solve all of these problems:

When you ... The point ...

make ' x ' bigger moves to the right
make ' x ' smaller moves to the left

make ' y ' bigger moves up
make ' y ' smaller moves down.

That's IT ! That's all you need.

I'll do the first and last problems in the chart for you.
You'll laugh out loud, you'll slap yourself in the forehead,
and you'll scream "Is THAT all there is to it ? ! ?".
Then you'll close your eyes, tie both hands behind your back,
and toss off everything else on the page, by yourself.

The first problem says:

You start out located at (2, 3).
You move 5 units down and 4 units left.
Where are you now ?

OK.
You started at x=2 and moved 4 units left.
That brings you to x= (2-4) = -2 .

You started at y=3 and moved 5 units down.
That brings you to y= (3-5) = -2 .

After moving, you're at (-2, -2) .

The last problem in the chart says

You start out located at (-5, -5) .
You move 8 units right and 3 units up.
Where are you now ?

OK.
You started at x= -5 and moved 8 units right.
That brings you to x= (-5+8) = 3 .

You started at y= -5 and moved 3 units up.
That brings you to y= (-5+3) = -2 .

After moving, you're at (3, -2) .
