The democratic party relied on the black vote to defeat the Populist Party that was threatening the democratic power. They utilized fraud in order to get rid of the Populist agenda.

With the help of the black votes the Democrats managed to win the election which was a great shock to the Populist party. The conservatives used fraud to win at this election as they bribed, threatened black voters and just plainly counted their votes as their own which led to Populist defeat.
