The Tammany Hall political machine would most likely support the label of "boss" tweed. William "Boss" Tweed was a politician and the head of the Tammany Hall organization in the mid-1800's. He was a Democratic member of the US House of Representatives and, later, a member of the New York County Board of Supervisors and the New York State Senate. His organization focused on political patronage and embezzlement from political committees. He was arrested and jailed in 1877.
