Ok, so let
x = the money that Torrance intends to spend on his brother.
x + 10 = the money Torrance intends to spend on his sister
6 + 2(x + 10) = the money Torrance intends to spend on his mother
So Torrance has $100 to spend.

Let's use all of this information and set up an equation.
x + x + 10 + (6 + 2(x + 10)) = 100
2x + 10 + 6 + 2x + 20 = 100
4x + 36 = 100
-36 -36
______________
4x = 64
Divide 4 on both sides.
You get $16.
He intends to spend $16 on his brother.
