a. Role conflict

A role conflict refers to a situation where an individual is expected to perform the duties and responsibilities of two or more contradictory or opposing social roles. For instance if a father of a two year old is also a college football coach, he will undertake two very contradictory social roles in both of the situations respectively.

As a football coach, he will more likely be serious, firm and push his team hard; whereas, as a father of a toddler he will most likely be gentle, playful and affectionate.
