The sum of two numbers is 27. one number is 3 more than the other number. write and solve a system of equations to find the two numbers.

Let x equal the first number
Let y equal the second number
x+y=27
x=3y
Sub the second equation into the first equation
3y+y=27
4y=27
y=27/4
y=6.75
Sub y into the second equation
x=3y
x=3(6.75)
y=20.25
