Maximum and minimum value of correlation coefficient are 1 and -1 respectively.
When coefficient (r) = 1, it means that every data set values lies on a straight line or you can say that there is perfect positive linear relationship between two variables. When coefficient(r) = -1, it means that every data set values lies on a straight line but this straight line has negative slope. So they are also said to be perfect negative linearly related.
