The answer is C) an English monarch and the Catholic pope.

King Henry VIII resented that the pope did not authorize him to remarry as many times as he pleased, which compounded other political differences between England and the Catholic Church.

The Reformation in England stemmed from a difference of opinion between an English monarch and the Catholic pope.

This Reformation was started by Henry VIII who wanted to get divorced from his first wife and the Catholic Church did not allow it. So he confronted the Catholic Church in order to build his own religion.
