Chomsky proposed that there is an inborn linguistic processor for language in humans known as Language Acquisition Device (LAD). He claimed that humans are born with an innate basic knowledge of grammar and language structures. Furthermore, the brain is wired for language acquisition at specific critical stages of child development. Chomsky additionally argued that the innate awareness of the grammatical structure of knowledge enables children to learn and speak their native language(s) from the environment they are exposed to (the language their parents or primary caretakers use).
