Answer
: Conserve water
Step-by-step explanation
:
Conifers are cone bearing plants which produce seeds and hence are gymnosperms.
The leaves of the conifers are long, thin and needle like as these are evergreen plants.
The function of the waxy coating on the leaves is to
conserve water
.
The waxy covering around the leaves produces a cuticle and it helps to prevent dehydration. Since, the conifers are evergreen it is important for them to conserve water and to survive throughout the year. So for this purpose the conifers have this waxy coating around the leaves.
