The graph below shows two functions:

Based on the graph, what are the approximate solutions to the equation −3x + 8 = (0.25)x?

A) 1.9 and −2.6

B) 8 and 2.6

C) 1 and 2.6

D) −1.9 and 2.6

Answer. D) -1.9 and 2.6 are the solutions because when x=-1.9 and x=2.6 we have two points where the graph are cut. That is to say we have the same points in both graphs.

Answer:

The approximate solution of the equations are:

D) -1.9 and 2.6

Explanation:

We have to find the approximate solution to the equation:

-3x+8=(0.25)^x

i.e. the approximate solution are the x-value of the point of intersection of the graphs of the function:

f(x)=-3x+8

and
g(x)=(0.25)^x

Hence, the approximate solution from the graph is:

D) -1.9 and 2.6
