Sarah wants to join a gym. Fitness Gym charges a $120 enrollment fee and $25 a month. Sports Gym charges no enrollment fee and $45 a month. She writes the two equations C = 120 + 25x and C = 45x and graphs the solution. The graph shows in 6 months the gyms will cost the same amount. How much will the gyms cost at 5 months?

Answer: At 5 months Fitness Gym will cost $245 and Sports Gym will cost $225.

Explanation:

Hi, to answer this question we simply have substitute x=5 in both equations:

Fitness Gym:

C = 120 + 25x

C = 120+ 25(5)

C = 120+ 125

C =$245

Sports Gym:

C = 45x

C = 45 (5)

C =$225

So, after 5 months Fitness Gym will cost $245 and Sports gym will cost $225.
